A GATHERING OF VOICES
Something is right in the world of singing.
Alta Classica, Inc put together a benefit concert on September
23rd. at the Liederkranz in New York. This was a case of singers
helping other singers and it came about through the internet.
Some singers posted on a forum about tragic losses, health problems
and a lack of insurance. Their forum colleagues decided to help.
The result was A GATHERING OF VOICES, the entire proceeds of
which will go to the Musician's Foundation to help those unfortunate
singers. The suggested donation was $20 and a total of $890 was
raised.
"We all know of the singers' struggles and how it is
impossible to get health insurance when one temps at a day job
to support his/her singing while waiting for that break. It is
heartbreaking when a tragedy ensures on top of this."

Anyone who has been in this business awhile is acquainted
with the ups and downs. Its a struggle without divorce, death
and major illness. How do we make it through when those things
strike? Other singers truly understand what is involved and obviously
some singers did much more than just sympathize.
I wish the news were full of this
kind of thing. Thanks to the singers and for Alta Classica for
having such open hearts.
